IMPACT OF ACCESS TO SOCIAL MEDIA ON EMPLOYEE PRODUCTIVITY AND ORGANISATIONAL PERFORMANCE AT ECONET WIRELESS ZIMBABWE

Abstract


This research examines the impact of social networking on employee productivity and organisational performance at Econet Wireless in Zimbabwe. The research explored the link between social networking and employee productivity as well as organisational performance. The methodology used is survey technique  with questionnaires as research instruments. In this study a sample of 140 employees was randomly selected. The key findings were social networking provides enhanced levels of employee productivity; Business advantages and benefits of social networking in the workplace are still underappreciated and undervalued; Social networking technology can facilitate improved workplace productivity by enhancing the communication and collaboration of employees which aids knowledge transfer and consequently makes organisations more agile. It is concluded that this technology can be used to increase collaboration between individuals who share a common interest or goal. Increased collaboration will stimulate knowledge sharing between individuals, with the possible effect of increased productivity.
