A Junction Based Infrastructure Assisted Routing Protocol for VANETs: JIP

Abstract


The proposed protocol belongs to the category of reactive routing protocols, in which vehicles broadcast only when it is require. Unlike other geographic routing protocols, we are delivering the packet to the infrastructure available at the junctions with the help of greedy forwarding technique. Global positioning system and the digital map has been extensively employed to acquire the location of vehicles and road side units (RSUs). The Qualnet Simulator with Sumo and Move is used to evaluate the performance of the proposed protocol. The performance of the anticipated protocol has been compared with Greedy Perimeter Stateless routing protocol (GPSR) and Contention based forwarding protocol (CBF) in terms of packet delivery ratio parameters as well as network overhead parameters. Simulation result demonstrates that JIP offers improved performance than GPSR and CBF.
